Lone Prairie
Matt Brown - 5SP05007
Matt has a highly acclaimed debut album, Lone Prairie, on 5-String Productions . Joining Matt on the recording are banjo player Paul Brown and guitarist and singer Beverly Smith. The CD is a collection of 15 of Matt's favorite fiddle tunes and three songs that Beverly leads. Though Matt is the lead musician, the band chemistry on this recording is evident. The versions are distinct, the arrangements are tight, and it's clear that everyone is having fun. Lone Prairie is a great addition to the catalog of traditional Appalachian recordings, and establishes Matt as a master fiddler. Paul Brown deftly handles the banjo parts, alternating between clawhammer, finger picking, and his up-picking styles. Beverly's guitar playing is hypnotic and propulsive, and she and sings with purity and feeling.
