We are proud to announce the release of Matt Brown's Old-Time Fiddle Lesson Vol. 1, a recording of twelve old-time fiddle tunes played slow and again at a moderate tempo. The recording starts in standard tuning with intricate yet approachable versions of standard fiddle tunes. There is a pair of tunes played in D tuning (ADAE) then the rest of the CD is played in cross-tuning. In this case, Matt cross-tuned down to G (GDGD) which puts less strain on a fiddle than tuning up to cross A. The fingering is the same as if one were tuned to cross A (AEAE).
Nearly half of the tunes on this instructional CD can be heard up to speed on Matt's CD Lone Prairie. Joining Matt on "Lone Prairie" are Paul Brown, banjo and Beverly Smith, guitar and vocal. This CD presents 18 wonderful old-time tunes and songs.
Check back for some sample audio clips, notation and tablature.
A forthcoming book will include musical notation and tablature for these tunes.
